NASCAR All-Star Race Voting Has Begun
The 2013 NASCAR season may have officially started four weeks ago, but race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star race is underway.
As the season progresses for the Cup Series, many drivers will not only attempt to capture wins in the season, but secure their spot in this year’s All-Star race. Meanwhile many other attempt to race their way in, one lucky driver will have the opportunity to race thanks to the fans as NASCAR has opened up voting for the race.
Voting as of Wednesday will be available for fans to cast their votes until the day of the race on May 18 at 5 p.m. For this year’s fan vote 26 drivers are eligible to be selected within the votes. Sprint Cup rookies Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are among the drivers on the ballot.
Drivers eligible for the vote have finished in the top 55 of the final 2012 point standings or have attempted to qualify for the 2013 Daytona 500.
Following the 2012 All-Star race drivers who won in the following races and in the first four of the year have qualified themselves into the 2013 race. Drivers that have secured their spot so far include Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Marcos Ambrose, Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick have also secured a spot in the race.
Drivers who have not won a race and before the winner of the fan vote is announced, two drivers have the chance to enter the race in the Sprint Showdown.
The All-Star race is a non-points race, but allows drivers and fans to enjoy a night of racing where the prize won’t be a win in the point standings, but a cash prize that can help any team. Just like the Sprint Unlimited many drivers wish to race and have to race their way into the annual race.
Its also a night filled with racing besides the All-Star race along with the Sprint Showdown and the burn out contest.
The All-Star break manages to bring out a break for teams, but a weekend of racing under the lights in a race that allows drivers to have fun racing.
