Fantasy NASCAR Picks Heading into STP 500
NASCAR is back after a brief hiatus for the Easter holiday as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series are headed to Martinsville Speedway. When talking about Fantasy NASCAR picks for this weekend’s race, it is simply impossible to forget and ignore the dominant force at Martinsville, Jimmie Johnson. This Hendrick Motorsports driver has won at Martinsville seven times over his career in the Sprint Cup and has just set a new track record in qualifying to grab the pole.
So beyond Five Time, who else should be riding pretty in your roster this week? If Denny Hamlin weren’t out with his back injury he would also be a lock to make the team. Instead, Mark Martin is taking control of the number 11 FedEx Toyota.
By the numbers, Johnson’s teammate Jeff Gordon would like like another solid pick considering he has his own set of seven grandfather clocks. However, Gordon’s start to the season has been nowhere close to spectacular; so, pick him at your own risk.
A great pick for this weekend will be Johnson’s other fan favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt is on a run of solid top ten finishes that have took him to the top of the points standings. A victory here at Martinsville would validate his status as a Sprint Cup threat.
Other worthwhile lower cost picks include Joey Logano, who has a massive chip on his shoulder considering the flak he has been taking lately. Logano was also able to grab a top five starting position for Sunday’s race. Another good cost effective pick is Aric Almirola, who has a good record at this short track and is bound to finish well.
