5 Drivers to Watch in the STP 500
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is back at Martinsville Speedway for the STP 500. Heading into this sixth race of the year, we have had five different winners so far: Jimmie Johnson at Daytona, Carl Edwards at Phoenix, Matt Kenseth at Las Vegas, Kasey Kahne at Bristol and Kyle Busch at the Autoclub Speedway.
This year, the first with the Generation Six car, has been surprisingly exciting at times and not at others (cough-Phoenix-cough). Now the series is back to another half mile track like Bristol Motor Speedway where excitement is sure to abound.
There have been many drivers that have had a solid beginning year but are desperately craving a trip to victory lane. The short list includes current points leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. and reigning champion Brad Keselowski.
There are also those drivers off to a difficult start this year that need a good finish to get back on track. Some veterans like Tony Stewart have had a very rough start and could use a win to jumpstart their season.
New rivalries have ignited between Joey Logano and Tony Stewart as well as Logano and injured Denny Hamlin. Mark Martin will be taking Hamlin’s seat in the number 11 FedEx Toyota and will try to take the team to a good finish at a track Hamlin has always been dominant at.
Well, it’s almost impossible to completely predict how Martinsville is going to shake out there are some drivers that deserve a bit more attention this weekend in Virginia.

This driver will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders driving this Martinsville winning rig.
This guy is on a roll after a second place finish at Bristol and a sneak win at Fontana last weekend. He’d sure appreciate a grandfather clock.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale is in the points lead and has had an incredibly solid beginning to the year. A win could catapult him far into the lead.
This guy is a Martinsville master. Another win wouldn’t surprise too many after he grabbed the pole with a new record qualifying lap.
This guy is allegedly going to have a target on his hood compared to the rest of the field heading into this bump filled track. It looks like Logano is going to be worth watching the rest of the season.
