This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series goes to the “Lady in Black”, the Darlington Raceway for the annual Bojangles’ Southern 500.

Kurt Busch won the pole for this week’s race and a spot in next year’s preseason race the Sprint Unlimited.  He will lead the field to green tonight.

Friday night the Sprint Cup Series regulars dominated the Nationwide Series race at Darlington.  Kyle Busch won the pole and the race.

The Sprint Cup Series uses the same tires as the Nationwide Series. Tires are very important at Darlington Raceway. The “Lady in Black” gets its name because of how hard the track is on tires and cars. Look for just about everyone to get four tires on the last pit stop.

Greg Biffle won the pole for this race last year but was not able to capitalize on it to win the race. No driver has won this race from the pole since 1997. Will Kurt Busch be able to break that trend?

This race is an impound race where NASCAR impounds the cars after qualifying. The teams cannot make any changes to the cars other than air pressure. If they do then the penalty would be to start at the rear of the field. As of this writing no one will have to start at the rear of the field.

There is a chance for rain tonight in Darlington. If you are recording the race it would be recommended to record the shows immediately after in case of a rain delay.

The race is 367 laps or 501.3 miles in length.

If you can’t get to Darlington Raceway, The Bojangles’ Southern 500 will be broadcast on Fox starting at 6 PM ET Saturday May 11th.
