5 Drivers Who Could Use the Momentum of an All-Star Race Win

This weekend NASCAR heads home to Charlotte, North Carolina for the first of two racing weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway. CMS is hosting the Sprint All-Star Race, the NASCAR race for the best of the best with no points up for grabs but instead a cool million dollars for the winner. This year it has also been decided that if a driver wins every segment of the race then they will receive an additional million dollars to take the winning purse up to $2,000,000.

The format of the race sets the field as anyone who has won a race in the 2012 or 2013 season so far, anyone who has won the All-Star Race since 2003, Cup champions since 2003, the top two finishers out of the Sprint Showdown on Friday night, and finally the winner of the fan vote.

Now this sets most of the best drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with a guaranteed spot in Saturday night's race. The drivers will have to compete in four 20-lap segments where caution flags will count toward the total, and then there will be a final ten lap segment where caution laps will not be counted. Each team will also have to make a four tire pit stop before the final ten lap segment.

Last year five-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson ran away with the race in the last segment while 2012 Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski finished in second behind him. This race has no effect on the points standings, but it can bring invaluable momentum to a team in need. Here are five teams that could really use some momentum to bring into the Coca-Cola 600.

A win from Jr. would be great for the fans and maybe set him on the road to another more important win this year.

Coming off of his injury Hamlin had a strong showing last weekend at Darlington, but he could still use a bit more momentum and time in the car headed to the Coca-Cola 600.

The 2012 Sprint Champion's second place heralded his duel with Jimmie Johnson in the Chase later in the year. This team could desperately use a positive outcome to boost morale and gain steam for next week.
