Can Kyle Busch Take Back Charlotte from Jimmie Johnson?

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Last week NASCAR had an off week but managed to race anyway. Jimmie Johnson took back his house and won the All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This week many drivers are gunning to take it back. Kyle Busch has been on a roll the entire season and thinks it is his time.

This week is the second crown jewel in the NASCAR season. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway is a 1.5 mile D shaped oval.  It has 24 degrees of banking in the turns and 5 degrees of banking on the front and back stretches.  He high banking in the corners makes this track faster than many of the other 1.5 mile tracks.  The race is 600 miles or 400 laps provided there in not a green white checker finish.

Looking at the driver ratings and the racing in the All-Star race for last week we should just enjoy the day because Jimmie Johnson will win. There is no fun in that. The Toyotas driven by Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, and pole winner Denny Hamlin have been on a tear.

Using the driver ratings only Kyle Busch is even in Jimmie’s time zone. Kyle has been so close this whole season only to fall apart at the end. This time Kyle will put it all together and be there at the end to have a great race.

I don’t know what it is that’s keeping us from winning here in Charlotte.” Kyle said “It’s my favorite race track.  Maybe that’s what it is — just trying too hard.  I don’t know.  We’ve always had really good speed here.  We’ve been fast the last few times, especially having good runs and being up front — finishing second, finishing third — just not being able to quite have enough when it counts and be able to close the deal.  This is another weekend.  Hopefully, we can do it here.

There is 600 miles to see if Kyle can hold it together and be there at the end. Matt Kenseth might have something to say about if he wins but he also is the veteran that can help him hold it together.

If you can’t get to Charlotte Motor Speedway, the race will be on Fox Sunday May 26th, at 6 PM ET.
