They say you shouldn’t work with your partner, and this was proven at the Coca-Cola 600 when Danica Patrick’s boyfriend, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. caused her to crash. Racing three-wide and playing piggy in the middle, Patrick’s No.10 Chevrolet was hit by Stenhouse Jr.’s Ford, sending her up the track. She then hit the Ford of Brad Keselowski, sending them both into the wall, causing a restart.
Keselowski’s Ford was totaled and he finished 36th, while the NASCAR lovers Patrick and Stenhouse Jr. were able to continue. Finding the wall for a second time, Patrick eventually finished 15 laps down in 29th, with Stenhouse Jr. managing to finish only two laps down in 14th.
After the race, Patrick avoided the press, who were waiting by her car. Luckily for Stenhouse Jr., he had left by the time she emerged from the garage.
Patrick had this to say a few days later: “you don’t not talk about it because you’re riding home together. There’s a few silent moments for sure, many moments. I was upset. I wasn’t necessarily strictly just upset at him. He was there three wide as part of the issue.”
So it seemed Patrick didn’t bring her work home with her. “We’ll be fine. We’re fine,” Patrick said. “We had a lovely day on the boat, on the lake, got a sun tan.”
Considering this is their first coming together on the track since they announced their relationship in January, I just hope they realize crashes are a dead certainty in a sport travelling at over 200 mph.
