Today NASCAR is at the Pocono Raceway for the Party in the Poconos 400. Here is some news and notes that have happened since qualifying on Friday.

Qualifying was rained out on Friday so the field will line up by owners points.  Jimmie Johnson will lead the field to the green flag since his team is currently leading the standings.

The Pocono Raceway is one of Denny Hamlin’s best tracks. Unfortunately, with qualifying rained out he will start the race 17th, the position his team is in by owner points. This isn’t good for Denny since the winner of this race usually comes from the top ten.  20% win from the pole. 32.8% from the front row and an astounding 70% from the top ten.

The rain did let up enough for there to be two practice sessions Saturday. Jimmie Johnson led the first practice followed by Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, Marcos Ambrose and Kevin Harvick.  Denny Hamlin was a disappointing 26th. Paul Menard had transmission problems early in practice. His team replaced his transmission.

In Happy Hour practice Kurt Busch took the lead followed by Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman.  Denny Hamlin was able to pick it up a bit to 13th but will have some work to do in order to rescue his season.

Although rain has been a problem the whole weekend there is only a 10% chance of rain so there should be no problem getting the race in.

If you can’t make it to the Pocono Raceway this is the first race of the season that will be televised by TNT Sunday June 9th starting at 12 PM ET.
