Today NASCAR is at the Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota Save-Mart 350. Here is some news and notes that have happened since qualifying on Saturday.

Jamie McMurray won the Coors Light Pole award and will lead the field to green. Track position is very important at road course races. Starting at the front goes a long way to providing more opportunities to keep it and perhaps win the race.

Marcos Ambrose who almost won this race last year and many say is the driver to beat will start second. Other notable drivers didn’t qualify too well and will be relying on pit strategy in order to regain track position and put themselves in position to win.

Jeff Gordon qualified 10 and Juan Pablo Montoya 13thTony Stewart one of the best drivers on this track qualified 11th.

Brian Vickers was in WI running the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Because of the distance he was not able to get to Sonoma to practice and qualify the car. He will start the race at the back due to the driver change after qualifying. Jason Bowles practiced and qualified the car.

Victor Gonzalez Jr. wrecked his primary car on his first qualifying lap. His team switched to a back-up car so he will also start the race from the rear of the field.

There is a slight chance of rain today at the track so if you are DVR’ing the race please plan accordingly.

If you can’t get to Sonoma the race will be broadcast on TNT, Sunday June 23rd at 2 PM ET.
