Back in May I wrote, “They say you shouldn’t work with your partner” in an article about NASCAR sweethearts Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr’s coming together during the Coca-Cola 600.
Whilst it was Stenhouse Jr. receiving the silent treatment at Charlotte, this time around saw Patrick in the doghouse after she crashed again at Loudon, taking her boyfriend out.
No. 10 driver Patrick wrecked her boyfriend Stenhouse Jr. during her first outing at the Loudon oval – short tracks like this haven’t brought out her best performances.
Unfortunately, this is the second time this season the NASCAR couple have clashed on the track.
Following a restart at the Camping World RV Sales 301, Patrick, Stenhouse and the rest of the pack were running close together when No. 10 lost control of her green GoDaddy! Chevrolet. She slid sideways and tangled with boyfriend Stenhouse Jr. and Travis Kvapil. The crash brought out the yellow caution flag on lap 238.
After the race Patrick said she was sorry, clearly emotional as she held back the tears. She also said the crash was entirely down to her, which I found especially refreshing from what are usually proud and narcissistic personalities quick to pass the buck.
Boyfriend Stenhouse Jr. was referring to Patrick as “the 10.” Is this speaking professionally or taking a dig?
With two hard-headed racers in one relationship, can it last? I’m not so sure, but after a few more crashes, I’m sure we’ll see.
Brian Vickers won the race driving the No. 55 Aaron’s Toyota, breaking a winless streak dating to August of 2009. Kyle Busch was second and Jeff Burton in third.
