With the 2013 chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup just a few weeks away, time is running out for several drivers to clinch their spot into the championship race.
One such driver is Joey Logano, but the last few races have made his chase hopes a long shot. After finally making it into the top-10 in points and facing all of the adversity from the Texas penalty and points deduction, the reversal of luck has made it much harder for Logano to qualify into the chase.
The races at Daytona and New Hampshire were the turning points towards the worst for Logano. Both races gave him his worst finishes of the season as he wrecked early in the races. With two 40th place finishes in two consecutive weeks, he went from 10th in the points prior to Daytona to 18th heading into the bye week before Indianapolis.
What looked like Logano’s possible first chase appearance has taken a step back. Making up ground will be a challenge for Logano, but if he is able to recover and race the way he had been or even improve, he could still be a surprise contender in the chase.
With seven races to go before the start of the chase, he will have to step it up and find the consistency he had before Daytona. To increase his chances to make it, he needs to capture a win.
