The 2013 NASCAR season isn’t even over, but silly season continues to take over, with Jeff Burton becoming the latest surprise.
Both Burton and Richard Childress Racing confirmed on Wednesday in a press release that Burton would not return to the team in 2014. Burton will leave the team upon completion of the 2013 season due to financial concerns for next season.
Currently, Burton races the No.31 Chevrolet and has been a part of the team since 2005. Throughout his time with RCR, Burton has won four of his 21 cup wins with the team, as well as seven NASCAR Nationwide Series wins.
While Burton will not return to the team, his future plans have yet to be determined. As for the No.31, a new driver for 2014 is expected to be named soon. Although changes are in store for the No.31 team, their current sponsor Caterpillar will be back in 2014.
As the 2013 season continues to move into the 10-race championship chase playoff format, all the latest releases and driver movements have taken over over the last few weeks within the Cup Series. Now with Burton’s departure from RCR, rumors have led to Ryan Newman being one of the possible new drivers in the No.31.
Where or what Burton decides to do for 2014 will be interesting to follow, considering there still are many other drivers looking for a new team for 2014.
