Jeff Gordon, over the last two weeks at Bristol Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway, finished seventh and sixth respectively and is six points away from the 10th spot which Kurt Busch holds. With all that being said, I believe Gordon has the momentum, and I think he will take it all the way to victory lane to earn his first win of the season at the perfect time at Richmond International Raceway. It’s really the only way the No. 24 team can go about it as Gordon discusses via Jeffgordon.com.
“Winning is our goal this weekend … it’s what we want to do every weekend … I’ve said all along that I think [Chase berths] will come down to the last lap at Richmond, and we’re going to battle all the way to that checkered flag to try and earn one of those spots.”
Gordon, as we all know, had a similar run last year where he fought off Kyle Busch, to clinch the final spot in the chase at Richmond. It’s tough that Gordon has to be in this position again, but it those are the cards that are dealt so it has to be done.
If Gordon can win this race on Saturday, I really believe he can go on a serious run. During practice on Friday, Gordon posted the fifth-fastest time in first practice, and the fastest time in final practice. If Gordon can qualify well, this may be a very dominating car, and the momentum can carry over into the chase.
Gordon gets up for the big moments in racing, and I don’t expect anything less than a great performance in Richmond.
