Denny Hamlin Continues To Take Over Speedweeks With Budweiser Duel Win

Denny Hamlin continued his comeback and his winning ways as he continued his recent winning streak at the Budweiser Duel, winning the second of two races at Daytona International Speedway Thursday.

Hamlin captured the win in the second duel race after he took the lap within the final laps and managed to lead for 23. Heading towards the checkered flag Hamlin managed to keep a distance between himself and Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch, as well as the remainder of the field.

The win at the Budweiser Duel gives him his second consecutive win at Speedweeks in Daytona and his third straight win since the 2013 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Meanwhile Joe Gibbs Racing has dominated throughout Speedweeks. Hamlin has won at the Sprint Unlimited and the second race of the Budweiser Duel. Matt Kenseth won the first race at the Duel.

As Hamlin and JGR celebrated in victory lane, the rest of the field in the second duel were waiting for their results and some were checking their damage from the last lap wreck.

The second duel, compared to the first duel race, saw a little bit more passing and some chaos heading towards the finish.

The end of the duel featured one that saw Jimmie Johnson run out of fuel, a final lap wreck and Clint Bowyer going airborne. Johnson and Martin Truex Jr.’s car caught fire, giving the second duel a wild race to the finish.

Now the field for the Daytona 500 is set and the days to the official kickoff to the season are now minimal. Another season but so far Speedweeks has been providing more Daytona memories and more unexpected moments as they continued throughout the Duels.
