This is least surprising move of the offseason so far. I knew he was on his way out when he kept the starts playing 35 plus minutes when the Warriors were already eliminated. The guy was clearly padding his stats because he knew he was going to be interviewing for jobs open on other teams. It must have been made clear to him he wasn’t coming back well before the season was over.
It was for the best that he was let go. The Warriors need a fresh start from Nellie ball and clearly the Warriors were still playing a version of it. Let’s get a coach in here that can teach and enforce some defensive minded basketball. The Warriors players know how to score and now they need to know how to defend. For this team to compete they must become a more well rounded team. This release had more to do with moving on as an organization then it did with wanting Keith Smart out.
As for Smart he has shown he can win with little talent. Sure the Warriors have some talent at the starting position but that bench was just awful. Give him a more well rounded team and I think he would be a decent coach. To be totally honest I think he is probably best suited for a career as an assistant in the NBA or head coach for a college team. Either way he will be making more money than me so I don’t feel bad for him.
Joe Lacob that was a good first move. Now keep it going. Rowell and Riley need to go next. Let’s get the Cohan smell out of that building. Clean house and start building your own home. Like I said though, you are off to a good start.
