Should the Orlando Magic Re-Sign Earl Clark?
The Magic received Clark as part of a throw-in when they dealt Mickael Pietrus, Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, and a 2011 1st round pick for Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, and Clark. He hasn’t received a lot of playing time, but he has shown flashes. Clark reminds me of former Magic forward Stacey Augmon who spent 15 years in the NBA, wrapping up his final two seasons in Orlando. Augmon never averaged more than 15 points per game in his career, but
was known as “Plastic Man” for his great lockdown defense. Clark could make defense his calling card, too. He has the length and athleticism to be an oustanding defender if he applies himself. With the Magic lacking good defenders to throw at the bigger wing players, Clark could fill a niche that Orlando needs. His price will probably come cheap this off-season since he hasn’t really shown anything yet in his NBA career and few teams are considering him much of a prospect at this point. It seems the right decision would be to bring him back. Even good teams like the Magic should develop prospects as they try to make title runs, and Clark is about the best prospect the Magic have at this point. Unless you’re still on the Daniel Orton boat.
