Rip Hamilton spent a great deal of time during his NBA career in Motown, including winning an NBA title in 2004 with the Pistons. On Wednesday, Hamilton returned to Detroit for the first time since leaving for greener pastures in Chicago amidst the shortened NBA off-season. Rip scored 14 points for the Chicago Bulls and dished out five assists, while grabbing three boards against his former teammates. The Bulls cruised to a 99-83 win in Auburn Hills, Michigan. With the victory, Hamilton’s Bulls move their impressive early season record to 6-1 on the year.

Hamilton averaged 18.5 points per game over his career with the Pistons, but sputtered in his last season with Detroit in 2011 as Rip averaged 14 points per game. So far, in limited time with the Bulls, Hamilton is averaging 12 points per game, alongside three assists and three rebounds a night. Not bad numbers, but not nearly what the Bulls are looking for if they wish to contend for a title. Hamilton is clearly the best shooting guard in Chicago since the retirement of Michael Jordan, but that isn’t saying much.
