Billups Tears Achilles, Career Over?

By David LaRose

It was confirmed today that Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups did in fact tear his achilles tendon during Monday night’s game against the Orlando Magic.

An MRI  this morning confirmed the tear and that’s really unfortunate news for Billups and the rest of the Clippers as he was a main player in their rotation.

This injury not only ends his season but could very well end his storied NBA career depending on his recovery.

Coming back from an injury like this takes at least 6-9 months and who knows if he will be as effective as he is right now. Chauncey is 35 years old and in his 14th NBA season but he’s still averaging 14.9 points and 4 assists per game.

Billups, in a call to Yahoo sports, said that this will not end his career and that he will definitely be back for next season. He said that he will speak to other athletes who have suffered this injury, Isiah Thomas, David Beckham and Dominique Wilkins- for pointers on the best way to recover.

Being a Colorado fan, I can’t help but root for a smooth recovery for “Mr. Big Shot”. He’s had a great career and it would be sad for it to end this way.

I’m going to guess that this is not the last we see of Billups in an NBA uniform just yet.
