Dirk Nowitzki Reaches Milestones in Mavs' Win Over Celtics

By Marian Hinton

It was another big night for the reigning NBA Finals MVP.

In the first quarter of the Dallas Maverick’s 89-73 win over the Rondo-less Boston Celtics, a blocked shot by Dirk Nowitzki gave him 1,000 career blocks, making him just the 83rd player in both NBA and ABA history to reach the milestone (80th in NBA). He added another blocked shot later in the game.

Perhaps even more impressive, also in the first quarter, after scoring the 23,335 point of his 13-year NBA career, Dirk Nowitzki passed Boston-great, Robert Parish, to become #20 on the list of the NBA’s all-time leading scorers.

Posting a double-double at the half, the 7-foot German ended the night with 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Though he started off this season rather quietly, battling injuries early on and leaving many to wonder if he was past his prime, Dirk appears to be playing like Dirk once again.
