New Jersey Nets’ Deron Williams Out With Calf Injury
New Jersey Nets All-Star point guard Deron Williams will miss Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks with a calf injury.
Williams strained his right calf during the NBA All-Star game a few weeks ago and the injury has progressively gotten worse since. Williams was not able to finish Friday night’s victory against the Charlotte Bobcats due to the injury. The Nets training staff have decided it is best to shut him down for a few days in order for him to regain his strength.
Jordan Farmar, who has been playing great recently, will start for Williams. Obviously, New Jersey will be missing a great deal of talent without Williams but the Nets are lucky to have a good player in Farmar to replace him.
Head coach Avery Johnson said the team will treat the injury and have an update on Tuesday whether or not Williams will play in Wednesday’s game.
In 40 games this season, Williams is averaging 22.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field.
The Bucks will benefit greatly from this injury as they are trying to push their way back to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. After a crucial win against the New York Knicks at home and a solid victory against the Toronto Raptors on the road, Milwaukee is currently one game back of being in playoff contention.
