Derrick Rose tears ACL despite Chicago Bulls Win and Title Hopes Go Out the Window

In sad news coming out of Chicago, Derrick Rose has torn his ACL and will be shut down for the year. This casts grim news on the Chicago Bulls Playoff hopes; they might still be able to beat the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, but overcoming the Boston Celtics possibly in the next round and the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals now looks like a pipedream.

“It’s like the saddest win,” Bulls shooting guard Kyle Korver said. “Regardless, we’ve got to pick ourselves up. We’ve played a lot of games this year without him. So maybe it was just getting us ready for this.”

It can be called into question whether Rose should have even been on the floor, with the Bulls having the game well in hand, and there only being 1:10 left on the clock. At a certain point, though, Tom Thibodeau had to see whether Rose was completely back in rhythm. Rose had an excellent game recording 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists, but it is all soured by the news of this severe injury. Rose has battled injuries all season with ailments ranging from toe, groin, and back spasms.

“It’s tough,” Carlos Boozer said. “It seems like he just can’t catch a break. We’re all praying for him, hoping it’s not that bad. It seemed pretty bad, but we’re hoping for the best in this situation. I just feel for him, man. He really can’t catch a break this season.”

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat completely dismantled the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their series and the Heat’s hopes of reaching the NBA Finals again became much better with the Bulls losing their superstar point guard. This is sad news for what probably would have been a historic Eastern Conference Finals.
