It Is Time For The New York Knicks To Get Rid Of Amar’e Stoudemire
Amar’e Stoudemire pulled off one of the biggest bonehead moves that any superstar, regardless of what sport the superstar plays, could do. At the end of Monday’s loss to the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the first round of the NBA playoffs, Stoudemire allegedly punched a glass fire extinguisher casing. The result is Stoudemire having to possibly miss the rest of the series against the Heat.
This is not the first time a Stoudemire injury caused him to miss an entire playoff series. Last year, the Knicks were in a series against the Boston Celtics and after a great Game 1, Stoudemire came up lame during pregame workouts. Stoudemire injured his back and after trying to pull a Willis Reed-type comeback in Game 3, Stoudemire ended up missing the rest of the series and possibly screwing up his back for his entire career.
This season though was supposed to be the year that the Knicks got things together. This was the year Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony were supposed to coexist and the Knicks were supposed to be great. However, Stoudemire was injury-plagued and had a death in the family which are two things that could mess with a man psychologically. However, when will a team learn that not making it out of the first round and a five year, $99.5 million deal is not good for business.
The Knicks flourished when either Anthony or Stoudemire were out of the lineup. With them both in it, the team cannot function as we are seeing against the Heat and Stoudemire’s actions are inexcusable even though with both of them in the lineup is the best case scenario. You cannot take yourself out of a series regardless that you’re down 2-0. There are still games to be played. Stoudemire basically was over emotional and did something completely stupid.
This could be a blessing in disguise for the Knicks. There is still a chance that the Knicks could win the series, no hope is lost. However when you think of the star potential that the Knicks could bring to the floor, it is unbelievable how neither Anthony or Stoudemire can make it work.
The Knicks should rethink what they are doing with this team because right now Stoudemire, not Anthony, is the one that is wasting the organization’s money and putting that gray cloud back above the Knicks fans.
