US Select Team Announced
The US Select Team has been finalized, featuring a talented young group that will practice against the U.S. Olympic Team prior to the London Games.
2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving highlights the 13-man roster, which will help the Olympic Team prepare for international play with scrimmages in Las Vegas. Also on the squad is Jeremy Lin, who captured the attention of the entire world with his spectacular play earlier in the season.
Kyrie Irving, John Wall, Jeremy Lin, Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan, Paul Goerge, Gordon Hayward, Kawhi Leonard, DeJuan Blair, Ryan Anderson, Derrick Favors, Taj Gibson and DeMarcus Cousins.
The Olympians will need all the practice they can handle after dealing with several injuries to key players during the 2011-12 NBA season. Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Chauncey Billups and LaMarcus Aldridge will all be out for the Olympic Games after suffering serious injuries earlier in the year. Dwyane Wade is also unsure if he will play following the conclusion of the NBA Playoffs. Kentucky big man Anthony Davis and NBA Sixth Man of the Year James Harden have been added to the talent pool being considered for the final team, which will be announced on July 6.
The US Select Team will give coach Mike Krzyzewski and his assistants a chance to evaluate talent for future Olympic and world teams.
Coach K is 49-1 since taking over the Team USA reigns in 2006, and won gold medals at the both the 2008 Olympics and 2010 world championships.
