Kyle Lowry Upset With The Houston Rockets, Asks To Be Moved

By Joshua Casey

Towards the end of the 2011-2012 NBA trade deadline Houston Rockets point guard Kyle Lowry was being floated around as a possible trade acquisition of a few teams, namely the Los Angeles Lakers who were trying to solidify their point guard position. But Lowry suffered from a series of very serious abdominal pains and an even scarier bacterial infection that, luckily, did not hurt him to the point where he could not play in the NBA again. After sitting out for an extended period of time Lowry is ready to begin working out, conditioning, and getting ready for the 2012-2013 NBA season.

The only problem with that is that next season, if it were up to Lowry, he would not be playing for the Houston Rockets. News has come out that Lowry is infuriated with head coach Kevin McHale and, as long as the team re-signs fellow point guard Goran Dragic, wants to be moved out of Houston. As for the re-signing of Dragic, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey stated, “We plan to sign Goran”, which in turn means that he now has a problem on his hands with the former starting point guard, Lowry, who will be asked to be traded throughout this off-season.

Rockets head coach Kevin McHale, upon hearing about Lowry’s disinterest in him as a coach, said, “That’s very surprising. I didn’t think we had too much of a problem coexisting this year. Everybody has a little beef every once in a while. I didn’t feel (like we had problems). He apparently did.” If McHale didn’t not realize that Lowry was a big fan of his then apparently he wasn’t paying attention during the Rockets late season game against the Denver Nuggets.

During the game, which I mentioned above and from which apparently all film has been destroyed because I couldn’t find any clips from it, Lowry was not in the Rockets huddle during a timeout and was not paying attention to what McHale had to say. This act by Lowry prompted McHale to pull him back into the huddle and visibly upset Lowry who stormed back onto the court to finish the game.

Come next season Lowry is more than likely not going to be with the Rockets and one of the teams to watch out for is the Lakers, who were initially planning to trade for Lowry before he got injured. If the Lakers do not get their dream point guard in Deron Williams, who is interested in playing for the Lakers and might end up doing it if the New Jersey Nets do not dramatically improve their roster, then expect them to make a hard push for Lowry.
