The Boston Celtics were facing a do or die situation in game seven of the NBA Eastern Conference Semi Finals against Philadelphia. There was added pressure with the core four of this ” Big Three Era” Celtics team knowing that this was there last shot at an NBA title together. The Philadelphia 76ers had given the banged up Celtics all that they could handle for six tightly fought games and game seven would be no different. The 76ers played with a scrappy never give up mentality that more than overcompensated for their lack of a great go to scorer and this meant knocking them off even at home would be no easy task for the Celtics. Great challenges like this usually are the fertile soil that grows a hero. Last night the hero for the Celtics was Rajon Rondo.
Rondo being the hero is kind of fitting considering he played so terrible in game six. The fact is for three quarters of this game Rajon Rondo gave zero indication that he would be the hero of a tightly contested contest. Rondo played solid defense, but his shot was not dropping. He just was not putting it into the other gear that he possesses. However, when the Celtics needed him the most in the fourth quarter Rajon Rondo kicked it into that gear and would dominate the game like few can and Philly was sent packing.
After Paul Pierce fouled out in the fourth quarter with four minutes left, Rajon Rondo decided to take over the game. Rondo would put the team on his back and score nine straight points as Boston would build a ten point lead. His eleven total fourth quarter points were huge. Rondo did not just score off the drive as he buried a couple deep jump shots including a big three point shot that electrified the crowd. Rondo even buried his crucial fourth quarter free throws to ice Philly.
The team needed a guy to carry them to the promise land. Rondo was that guy. He would play a tremendous all around game and earn yet another triple double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) to go along with his three steals. Those that are critical of Rondo have to give the devil his due because Rondo is the reason Boston is facing Miami on Monday. If they go any further in the playoffs, Rondo will probably be the reason why and he will add more great moments to his growing resume. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!
