Brandon Roy retired this past season after numerous knee injuries cut his career with the Portland Trail Blazers short. Imagine that, a high draft pick for Portland has to call it quits due to his legs giving out. It would be funny if it wasn’t so predictable.
However, Brandon Roy isn’t going away so quietly. There have been rumors floating around that he could make a return to the NBA for the 2012-2013 season. If he does come back, it looks like the Los Angeles Lakers would be the front runner for his services. Roy would give the team another guy who can create his own shot.
I imagine that Brandon Roy would not be looking for a big time contract, so he could be had for a reasonable price. In fact, I am hoping that the Chicago Bulls make a pitch to Roy if he decides to return. Once Derrick Rose returns from his injury, that would be quite the formidable backcourt. It would also been one full of knee injuries, but sometimes you have to make due.
I loved watching Brandon Roy play because he used one of the lost arts in basketball. Roy didn’t make his bones launching threes or making highlight plays. Brandon Roy beat you by dominating from mid-range. A guy who can make a mid-range jumper and can play that high post game as a guard will always be valuable. Roy made it an art form and I hope he is able to bring it back if he returns.
