The Oklahoma City Thunder knocked off the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night to advance to their first NBA Finals. The way it is looking, the Thunder are well on their way to their first title. I have the feeling that we are witnessing the rise of a dynasty.
First off, the starting lineup of the Oklahoma City Thunder has an average age below 25. BELOW 25! That is unheard of title winning teams. They are only going to get better. They will learn to play through the highs and lows of playoff battles. Many thought they could make the leap last year but they were not ready. Right now, I believe the Thunder are ready to become a dynasty.
When you have a core of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, you are in some pretty good hands. None of those players has turned 24 yet. Unless Harden decides to chase money, they are going to be together for the foreseeable future. The rest of the league has been put on notice. This Thunder team is going to be around for a long time.
Calling the Oklahoma City Thunder a dynasty before they even win a title is very premature, but I have serious doubts that either team from the Eastern Conference can stop them. The Thunder are peaking at the right time. They were down huge against the Spurs and roared back within a quarter. They are playing on another level.
Basketball tends to run in dynasties. I believe that tonight was the passing of the torch. The Spurs passed the torch onto the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will be the standard bearer for years to come.
