Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat simply sucked against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday. One of the stars of the Heat struggled to a game where he ended up with 19 points on just 7 of 19 shooting. He had eight assists to go with that, but he also had three bad turnovers. His jumper looked broken, but he kept launching it up there.
He finished with an okay number of points, but the Heat needed more. People will be quick to blame LeBron James, but Wade did him no favors.
The Thunder dared Dwyane Wade to shoot jumpers. He obliged their defense and looked just awful doing it. Wade is at his best going to the rim but he failed to do that most of the game. His jump shot is not the world’s greatest, so it was a win for the Thunder every time he threw one up.
I think all the miles on his legs are starting to catch up with him. Dwyane Wade has played a lot of minutes in his career and had some injury issues. He seems to be slowing down. Some games, he just flips that switch and goes nuts. Other games, he has performances like this throughout the entire game.
The thing is, I feel like this was Miami’s best chance to steal a game in OKC. They dominated the first half, but the Thunder got it together and blitzed them in the late third and fourth quarters. It was impressive to watch for everyone that was not a Miami fan.
Is the series over? Not by a long shot. However, the Heat need a better version of Dwyane Wade to show up. This jump shooting brick layer is not going to cut it.
