Reports from allegedly reliable sources are beginning to surface that Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen experienced some friction during the course of this NBA season. The reports are also citing that this tension between the two might be another reason that Ray Allen’s time with the Boston Celtics may be over. My response to that is nothing more that a serious case of laughing my butt off over a story that is not news if you have watched this team over the last five years.
The fact is a shooting guard and a point guard are naturally going to have friction during a long NBA season between a great point guard and a great shooting guard. The point guard’s job is to set the offense. At times that offense is going to feature the shooting guard. This means fewer touches for a guy that is out there to shoot that has supreme confidence to the point that he feels ever shot he hoists is going in. Who is the shooting guard going to be unhappy with? Of course it is the point guard that is not getting him the ball. The point guard is also not going to be happy that his decision making is being questioned by the guy out there to shoot. This means conflict is going to happen.
The fact is this friction between the two has been going on since 2008. Ray famously called out Rondo for not getting him the ball in the right spots during Ray’s struggles in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Rondo has also quietly been rumored to be calling out Ray Allen with his some guys have their own agendas in this locker room during the 2010 regular season. Despite this friction, the Celtics not only keep winning, but clearly have the only thing that truly matters in the form of respect for each other in the media as both are extremely complimentary towards each other through the media. Rondo has always lauded Ray’s work ethic and big game shooting ability and Ray always calls Rondo the unquestioned leader of this team. It should also be noted that Ray stayed after the 2010 season despite this friction at times. This means this is nothing more than an expected spat between two guys that has been blown out of proportion to create a sexy story.
The bottom line is Ray may very well be done in Boston. However, it is not because of anything that has to do with Rajon Rondo. I just wish the media would look at the whole story before writing pieces that are fact, but only part of the fact. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!
