With the NBA Finals still ongoing, it looks like trades are still going down.  The New Orleans Hornets have traded Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza to the Washington Wizards for Rashard Lewis and a second round draft pick.

I am not sure how this deal helps both teams, but it certainly opens up the front court in New Orleans for Anthony Davis to take over right away.  They still have to deal with Lewis’s contract but it could eventually become a trade chip.  Seems more like a swap of bad contracts than anything.

I think this deal helps Washington more than New Orleans.  They add more veteran players and they have a pretty good front court now with Nene and Okafor.  They could make a little bit of noise at the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the upcoming season.

This trade sends a clear message.  The Hornets are now Davis’s team.  He is going to be the main guy upfront from Day 1, which seems like a good move to me.  It will be a baptism by fire for him, which could backfire.  I do not think it will, because Davis is that good.  He will be a star.

With the draft coming up soon, expect more trades to come down.  A lot of rumors will be flying and it should make for some good times online.  I love basketball rumors and it’s a great time to be a fan.
