The Miami Heat won the NBA Finals Thursday night with a Game 5 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder and it looks like they will be a potential dynasty. The online gambling site Bovada has odds listed for the 2013 NBA championship and the Heat are the favorites at 11/4 odds.
The Thunder are second at 5/1, the Chicago Bulls are third at 6/1, and the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs round out the top five at 10/1. Not a big surprise there, but I am shocked the Bulls are that high up. They must feel that the Bulls will not blow up their roster and that Derrick Rose will return completely healthy.
If you want a play that is long odds, but just might be insane enough to work, I would put a little bit of cash down on the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are 75/1, but they could scare some people with a couple of moves to shore up the roster.
I would be extremely scared of playing the Miami Heat the next couple of seasons. LeBron James can play pressure free basketball and he just might be able to average a triple double for the season sometime soon. Is that going to be extremely difficult? Of course it will, but LeBron has the best shot of doing it. He is a perfect hybrid of all of the great players in history.
People thought the league was going to be in trouble after a prolonged lockout. The players proved that wrong by producing one of the best seasons in league history. Fan interest is at the highest it has been since the Jordan era and there are a ton of young stars. Now is the perfect time to be a basketball fan and next season is going to be fantastic.
