Luol Deng has angered Chicago Bulls fans by playing in the 2012 London Olympics, because fans believe that he will not be ready for the season. Coach Tom Thibodeau has dispelled that rumor and he said that Deng will be ready for the start of the season.
This is big news for the Bulls. Luol Deng is the glue guy on the team and they are not as good with a hobbled Deng. This could just be coach speak but I think that this is an injury that can fix itself over time. Surgery would hobble Deng until January, which would be bad for the team.
I will believe this when I see it, however. I don’t trust what Thibs says and I still think that Deng should have had surgery this offseason. I think it would be better to be safe, rather than sorry. If the wrist injury flares back up again, the Bulls are in trouble.
This should dispel rumors that Luol Deng is going to get traded at some point. If he is ready to go from Day 1, that is a huge thing for the team. If they can hold down the fort until Derrick Rose returns from his knee injury, the Bulls will be in the thick of things next season. They may not have the best record in the league but they will be solid.
I hope that this move works out. A healthy Luol Deng is fun to watch and the Bulls certainly need him.
