Lou Williams found himself not wanted by the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday morning. The team agreed to a one year, six million dollar deal with free agent Nick Young. Williams saw the writing on the wall and took to Twitter to tell his fans that he was not coming back to the team.
I am not going to lie, I think this is a smart move by the 76ers. Lou Williams is a good scorer but he is repetitve with Nick Young. Not overpaying for Williams is a smart move by the team. He is going to get a decent sized deal from someone. Philly obviously did not want to commit to that.
I expect that Lou Williams will have plenty of suitors on the market. If he is willing to take less money, he is going to find a contender that is extremely interested in his services. I expect a lot of teams to kick the tires on Williams and he should not remain without a deal long.
I actually like the move by Williams to use Twitter as an outlet to tell his fans. I expected that Williams would not return to the team and it is something else to see a player confirm it online. He will move on and be fine. The move works out for both the player and the team. The 76ers get a cheaper player and Williams is able to play for a team that appreciates him.
