NBA Rumors: Indiana Pacers To Match Roy Hibbert Deal From Portland
Roy Hibbert was one of the bigger names on the market, but the latest NBA rumors have him staying with the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers plan to match the four year, 58 million dollar offer sheet that Hibbert was given by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Hibbert had his breakout season last year and this is a good deal by the Pacers to keep their core together. Hibbert will be a big part of the Pacers if they plan on winning a title soon. This could have a bigger effect on the market in a number of ways.
Since the Trail Blazers have lost out on Hibbert, I expect them to match the offer sheet out there for Nic Batum. He does not want to return to PDX, but the team will have no choice but to match his offer. It is not a good thing to let Batum go if you do not get your main target.
Hibbert will keep getting better and I expect him to develop in to an All-Star. If the Pacers want to take over the Central Division, they will need Hibbert at his best. A couple more years of development will make him a force to be reckoned with.
There were a lot of NBA rumors floating about Hibbert actually leaving. The Pacers did the right thing in retaining his services. You gave the eventual champs a scare last year, so trying again with the current roster is probably the best thing.
