CJ Watson was basically run out of town by Chicago Bulls fans after his performance in the playoffs. Actually, management decided he was too expensive to keep so they declined his option. Watson will be backing up another All-Star point guard as he is headed to the Brooklyn Nets.
CJ Watson was a decent player for the Bulls but injury problems ruined his final season with the team. He was asked to do too much and he just couldn’t do it. His shooting stunk, his defense fell off a cliff and he could not run an offense to save himself. Not exactly a good way to leave.
In Brooklyn, he will get to come off the bench and put up points. That is the best role for him and he should be able to start if Deron Williams ever gets hurt. He is a good backup player but his limitations are shown when he has to play a lot. He doesn’t have great height or speed, which opens him up to get burnt.
I didn’t mind Watson on the Bulls but I think a lot of people soured on him due to the playoffs. He pretty much cost them Game 6 with an ill advised pass. Never give the ball to your giant center that can’t shoot free throws when you have a one point lead when the other team is trying to foul. That is a cardinal sin and was the final nail in Watson’s Chicago career. Hopefully that doesn’t reflect on his play in Brooklyn.
