OJ Mayo has never lived up to the promise that he showed in high school, but the recent NBA rumors surrounding him show that a lot of teams want him. One of the best fits on the list would be the Chicago Bulls, who need a guy who can create his own shot.
The Bulls have needed a shooting guard with the ability to create off of the dribble since Michael Jordan retired. Well, they actually had some guys that could do it but those Bulls teams were beyond awful. A guy that can get to the rack is the perfect fit on a team that needs another ball handler to shove them over the top.
Mayo could have ended up on the Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft if he would have dominated at USC like many thought he would. He has been linked to the Bulls for a few years now since many believe he would fit perfectly next to star point guard Derrick Rose, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL.
Mayo’s stats are never the greatest but a new system and a new team could do him wonders. He would become a nightmare on defense and his offense would have free reign until Rose came back. Once Rose was back, those two could play off of each other to great success. The Bulls could save their offseason by making a play on Mayo.
If the latest moves by the Bulls get them their mid-level exception back, Mayo would be hard pressed to turn it down. Free agents like to spurn Chicago but Mayo would be a guy that could prove history wrong. Playing with Rose and company would be a good fit and he would fit right in on a title contender.
