Although it has quieted down some, there are still plenty of NBA rumors out there. The newest ones concern former second overall pick Darko Milicic. He is currently a free agent and he is drawing interest from numerous teams, including the Chicago Bulls.
The only way that the Bulls do this is if they decline to match the contract offer out there to Omer Asik. It sounded like the Bulls were going to match but information over the last couple of days shows the Bulls are starting to reconsider matching that deal. That would probably be a smart move.
If they do not match Asik, they avoid the luxury tax and they can get Darko for pretty cheap. Darko may not be as good on defense as Asik but his offensive skills are better. If they Bulls could get him on a one or two year deal, their mythical 2014 plan would still be intact. We all know how important that is to the team.
This move would probably anger Bulls fans, who seem to be pretty angry these days about almost anything. I do not blame them, considering the team that had the best record in the league last year is seeing its bench destroyed piece by piece. Darko could add some good depth but he isn’t going to be a game changer.
There will be more NBA rumors in the coming days, but it looks like Darko might be the best for the Bulls to add anyone new this offseason.
