Brooklyn Nets, Andray Blatche Agree To Deal
The Brooklyn Nets have found their man to backup center Brook Lopez.
The Nets and free agent center Andray Blatche have agreed, in principle, to a one-year deal worth the minimum. Blatche will be signing the deal next week and will be used either at the power forward or the center position.
Blatche’s agreement ends a long week of speculation that he would eventually sign with the Nets. Blatche would be the 14th player on the long list of Nets this season. He is also the seventh new face on the Nets team this season. Blatche will be additional depth in the front court that already has Reggie Evans and rookie Mirza Teletovic, who his killing it in EuroBasket for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
With the signing, the Nets are secretly hoping that Blatche stays out of trouble. He was amnestied last season by the Washington Wizards after numerous issues that included being involved in the Gilbert Arenas gun issue and his lack of conditioning that led to his benching this past January.
Working with the Houst0n-based John Lucas this season seemed to have changed his image around. Lucas mentioned that he is working harder than ever before and Blatche also mentioned that he rekindled his love for the game this past offseason.
The Nets are hoping to get the near double-double per game Blatche this year to help the team make a run in the Atlantic Division. Maybe some team with potential is just what the doctor ordered to get Blatche back to where he was two years ago.
