Holiday & Young Are the Philadelphia 76ers Top Players

By Tyler R. Tynes
After an elite off-season everyone is focusing their eyes on a competitive Philadelphia 76ers team.
CBSSports.com’s Eye on Basketball’s Elite 100 list included 76ers guard,  Jrue Holiday, at No. 71 and forward, Thaddeus Young, at No. 80 in the first edition of their player power rankings (No. 100 through No. 50).
Holiday has “a big opportunity to shine with Bynum”, according to CBSSports.com’s Matt Moore. That’s big news after Holiday finished the 2011-2012 NBA regular season with a decline in almost every statistical category from the year prior. Looking forward, Holiday has the opportunity to rise his stats for his points per game and assists per game because of all the defensive and offensive attention that Andrew Bynum will garner. Fans will love to see the play and ticket sales are bolstering because of these two.

In 65 games with the Sixers last season, Holiday averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, dropping statistically in points, greatly in assists and rebounds per game from his 2010-2011 NBA season.

Young started only one game for the Sixers last season, however he still finds himself sitting in the top 100. Young secures his spot while being one of the best bench threats there has been in the NBA.  As reported by CSNPhilly.com’s John Finger a few weeks ago, head coach Doug Collins plans on continuing to use Young off the bench for the 76ers because of his energy, great wingspan (which is around 7’2″ while Thad is 6’8″)  and scoring punch from the second unit.

Young averaged 12.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 63 games last season for the 76ers a season ago, when in contrast he only scored better twice in his career (2008-2009 & 2009-2010 seasons).
