The Brooklyn Nets announced on Wednesday that Andray Blatche officially signed with the team.
It’s a one-year, non guaranteed contract that could be worth the veteran’s minimum. Blatche will also earn $7.1 million this season after the Wizards amnestied him in July.
Blatche, 6-foot-11, 260 pounds played in 26 games last year for the Washington Wizards, averaging 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds.
In 13 games as a starter, he posted even better numbers, putting up 11.5 points and pulling 7.4 rebounds. His season ended early, however, when a calf strain forced him to miss the last 40 games of the season.
The 49th overall pick by Washington in the 2005 NBA Draft, Blatche appeared in 409 games during his tenure with the Wizards, with career averages of 9.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.
Blatche’s career-best numbers came during the 2010-2011 season, when he posted 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Blatche will serve as a backup to Kris Humphries and possibly Brook Lopez because the Nets don’t have a traditional backup center.
