Boston Celtics: Where are they now?-Gerald Green
We continue our series on former Boston Celtics players and where they are now. Today we take a look at Gerald Green. The Celtics drafted Green in the 2005 NBA Draft 18th overall out of high school. He had committed to play his college ball at Oklahoma State, but the lure of playing in the league was simply too big of a draw. Celtics fans were ecstatic to see Green still available when they were up as earlier in that week he was projected to go as high as the number three pick to the Portland Trailblazers. Green actually had a pretty decent start to his career with the team as he played a good amount of minutes and provided the team with lot of energy. As most probably know, you will not find many more athletic players than this guy. He can jump out of the gym and Celtics fans got a taste of that during his brief tenure. He failed to develop the vast potential that scouts had written all over him and the team shipped him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007 in the deal that brought Kevin Garnett to Boston. Green failed to do anything with Minnesota and a few years later he found himself out of the league playing overseas. It certainly was not the career path that he envisioned once he entered the league.
Fortunately for Green, he got a second chance in the league, this time from the former New Jersey Nets. He actually had a really solid season last year and became a much more consistent scorer, not only from the perimeter but by attacking the hoop as well. He parlayed last season’s play into a nice deal with the Indiana Pacers this off-season. The team gave him 3 years and 10 million to help solidify their bench. Green will play a lot of minutes for the Pacers and is one of those rare free agent signings who still has the potential to get better.
