Derrick Rose A Rare Find In The Culture Of Today’s Sports World

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

I’m going to put this as plain and simple as possible: Derrick Rose is absolutely incredible. In more ways than one.

Yes, the Chicago Bulls‘ All Star guard is among the best players in the league. He’s a superstar. He has unbelievable speed on the court, can dunk it with the best of them, and has put this team on his back on multiple occasions, whether it’s in the regular season or the playoffs.

We love Derrick Rose for what he does on the court. But the amazing thing about Rose, that continues to amaze me on an almost daily basis, is how he carries himself off of it.

In the sports world of today, where loyalty has gone to die and players are all about the “me” aspect, Rose has been the exception. He especially goes against the grain of today’s NBA (See: Howard, Dwight). Since breaking into the league, Rose has been nothing but humble.

On Thursday, Rose was at a promotional event for Adidas, for the D Rose 3 launch. In discussing his recovery from the ACL tear he sustained in the postseason against the Philadelphia 76ers, and seeing video of said injury, Rose broke down in discussing how much of a blessing it is for the opportunity and serve as a role model for so many.

“It’s truly a blessing, man. With all this stuff that’s going on in this city. A kid from Englewood has something positive going on. That makes me feel so good. The shoe is great. All this is great. I can’t explain this. I can’t. I went through so much. To have, like, true fans, that means a lot to me. And I know it means a lot to my family. Because we aren’t suppose to be here at all. But God made the way. This is truly unreal. I’m just happy to have true fans out there.”

Derrick Rose truly is a breath of fresh air in not only today’s NBA, but the sports world in general. He’s so incredibly humble and you really believe Rose every time he thanks his fans or says how grateful he is for the opportunity he has to play in the NBA, let alone in his hometown of Chicago. It’s impossible to overstate just how easy it is to like this guy.
