The Brooklyn Nets may have changed locations, but their extraordinary dancers will not be left behind. The “Brooklynettes,” who were simply called the “Nets’ Dancers” prior to moving to Brooklyn, have always been well known around the league for their impressive routines, which includes dunking during halftime.
This focus on performance, rather than appearance, would explain why the Brooklynettes’ new uniforms are not as showy as other teams’ around the league. Unlike the typical, cut off uniforms that fans seem to enjoy, the Brooklynettes are adopting heavy leather tops/bottoms, gloves, and high-heeled boots. It’s unsure whether the Brooklynettes will perform in high-heeled boots, but if they do, the team might end up spending more money on the ankle sprains of dancers than the ankle sprains of the actual players.
The new uniforms have brought about mixed responses, ranging from people who consider this uniform sexy, to others who consider the uniforms a bit too flamboyant. Personally, I am not a supporter of the new uniforms, simply because I don’t want to watch prison-guard lookalikes dancing while I’m eating my halftime meal.
The new uniforms, looking like they were taken from a Halloween store, also make the Nets look a bit unprofessional, as the uniforms are extremely bold and stylistic.
Whatever the effect of the uniforms may come out to be, there is no doubt that this is something new and unique. Hopefully the dancers can dunk just as well in these uniforms.
