Atlanta Hawks : Can F Anthony Tolliver Help In The Low Post?
The 27-year old, journeyman, Anthony Tolliver, out of Creighton University is a high energy forward. He is aggressive on the boards and he defends valiantly. Just what the doctor ordered for a Atlanta Hawks roster that appears to be depleted upon first site.
TheHawks are hoping for Tolliver to return to his form of the 2009-2010 season where he was a spark plug that filled the stat sheet in the scoring and rebounding departments. In fact, Tolliver scored 34 points and pulled down 8 rebounds against the Minnesota Timberwolves sparking them to sign the 2-year, $4.5 million deal in the summer of 2010.
Tolliver was vanquished into obscurity by the rise of Kevin Love. His productivity has waned off due to his playing time.
He still shows flashes of his potential from time to time. During the 2011-2012 season against the Oklahoma City Thunder , Tolliver put up an impressive 23 points while being guarded by one of the leagues premiere shot blockers in Serge Ibaka.
With Marvin Williams out of the picture the Hawks need scoring and rebounding voids filled. If the minutes are there for Tolliver he will be able to fill the void and some. The Hawks are making smart affordable moves to maintain there competitiveness in the East. Watch out for the Hawks.
They have quietly had a very effective off-season signing under the radar players to come in and fill the roles off Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams and company. If Tolliver could join forces with Kyle Korver, Lou Williams, and the host of other players signed over the summer, they will remain a factor in the eastern conference.
