The Brooklyn Nets have now been in training camp for a week and there are many new faces and new events that have taken place.  The Nets started the weekend with a scrimmage on Friday night that was quite competitive and lively from the reports that have surfaced.

The teams were put together by Avery Johnson and were as follows –

White Team  – Starters – Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Josh Childress, Mirza Teletovic and Andray Blatche. The reserves were Keith Bogans, James Mays and Stephen Dennis. Coach Popeye Jones

Black Team –  Starters – C.J. Watson, MarShon Brooks, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, and Brook Lopez. The reserves were Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans, Jerry Stackhouse and Carlton Scott. Coach Mario Elie.

The game was very competitive, as expected, and the word on the street is that the white team came out victorious while Watson had a very solid game in the loss and led all scorers.

The next day the Nets went to practice at PNY Center and Johnson decided he needed to give the guys a bit of a break, so he changed the agenda and made Saturday morning “Family Day” where the players could bring their children to practice. Johnson learned this tradition from his old coach Greg Popovich as he used to do the same thing in San Antonio. The players took nicely to this show of kindness and they all had some fun with the children and got to know all the families a little better. The team bonding that is taking place with the Nets in the first week of training camp has been exceptional so far.

Sunday was a big day for the Nets as it was the first time they got to practice at their new home, the Barclays Center. This was a particularly special day as the players came dressed to impress so they could shoot the video intro for the Nets games and then they took to the court for practice. The practice went well with all the Nets players doing their best to get used to their new surroundings and enjoying the time on the court.

The new shooting guard, Johnson commented, “It was nice to get out here and get some shots up” and many players echoed his thoughts when they spoke to the media following the practice.

The practice at Barclays Center was a first in what will be many “firsts” for this Nets team in the coming weeks, so hold on tight as the ride has only begun, Nets fans.
