While many players would contribute in the win, the main player that impacted the result was center DeMarcus Cousins.
In 27 minutes, Cousins scored 21 points and 9 rebounds in his first pre-season action. If Cousins is able to play like this throughout the 2012-13 regular season, he could become a top five center.
Defensive wise, the Kings are starting to look like a premier-oriented defensive team. James Johnson would lead the Kings in blocks with three, as the rest of the team piled up four more. Shooting guard Marcus Thornton would have three steals, and show signs that he is looking like a star out on the court.
His ability to shine will impact the Kings on whether they will improve from 22-44 or not. All together, the Kings looked very good out on the court, as their morale was higher than expected.
A bigger surprise than their defense, was guard Jimmer Fredette. He had ten points, four rebounds, and four assists in just 21 minutes. Jimmer never played that good in the regular season, as he looks like a brand new player. He is currently a third string point guard, but I think he should move to shooting guard, where he could get the back up role.
Another great thing to see, was rookie power forward, Thomas Robinson. Robinson would amass 12 points and eight rebounds, and look like an early NBA Rookie Of The Year contender. The only question that reamins is will his game successfully translate into the NBA?
Although it was Sacramento’s first game, they worked together much better than the Suns, as they now look like a threat to teams.
