Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut is arguably the most important player on the roster, and he has yet to practice or play in a preseason game because he’s still recovering from arthroscopic surgery he had on his left ankle in April. According to a source “Bogut won’t play even if he checks out at 90 percent.”

The question becomes will he be ready for the regular season opener against the Phoenix Suns? There is an eight-day break between the last preseason game and the start of the regular season, which gives him the chance to get to 100 percent.

With Andris Biedrins struggling with a groin injury it means that rookie center Festus Ezeli will start and he has had a decent preseason averaging 6.2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks on 81.3 percent shooting and 41.5 percent from the free throw line in the five games he’s played.

Unless Biedrins is healthy enough to play Jeremy Tyler will be the primary backup.

Another possibility is having David Lee move to center and have Carl Landry start at power forward, yet it would mean being significantly undersized which leads to foul trouble and that would mean inserting Ezeli into the lineup quickly.

While Bogut is an important piece to the puzzle for the Warriors he cannot be rushed back from his injury. That lesson was learned last season after Stephen Curry got rushed back from his sprained ankle and ended up missing the last 40 games of the 2011-2012 season after repeatedly re-injuring the ankle.

Best case scenario is that Bogut can play in at least one preseason game and the wort case scenario is that he isn’t ready for the start of the season and the most important thing is that he is 100 percent.
