NBA Rumors: Are The Los Angeles Lakers Targeting LeBron James In 2014?

Josh D. Weiss-US PRESSWIRE

The newest batch of NBA Rumors deal with something that is a couple years down the road. It involves LeBron James, because what good rumor does not involve him? It also involves the Los Angeles Lakers. Does this grab your attention?

Opposing executives think so. As teams continue their long-range planning and work up opposition strategies, the Lakers remain just as much a threat in the transaction game as they are on the court.

Several teams’ executives have told ESPN.com they believe the Lakers are positioning themselves to make a run at LeBron James in 2014, when the Miami Heat star can choose to become a free agent.

Yes, this move needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt but it does make sense.  At this point, Kobe Bryant would probably retire.  He might not want to, but I bet he has his six rings and he won’t stay if he doesn’t think he can dominate.  The Lakers will have tons of cap space and they could have a LeBron-Dwight Howard tandem.  That might scare a heck of a lot of people.

Then again, a lot of teams are going to be eyeing 2014.  LeBron might want to try something new by then and there will be plenty of teams that would love to have him.  I expect no less than eight teams to try to sway him, but the Lakers would certainly be the one that would intrigue him the most.

It is down the road, but this move certainly would be fun.

Kobe Bryant Rejects Roy Hibbert's High-5 Attempt

Things didn't go swimmingly for the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls, as they played horribly and lost by 23 points. Kobe Bryant clearly wasn't pleased. Dirk Nails Game-Winner, Gets Love From Kobe

Kobe Bryant wasn't able to lace up for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, but he still managed to make the highlight reels on multiple occasions. After Dirk Nowitzki nailed what turned out to be the game-winning jumper, he stumbled backward into Bryant and received a pat of approval. This encounter is the definition of the saying 'game recognizes game' as the two players are both legends and future Hall of Famers.
