NBA Miami Heat

Mario Chalmers: The Most Important Piece To Heat Dynasty

Us Presswire-Steve Mitchell

Mario Chalmers may be the most important piece to a possible Miami Heat dynasty.

Most of the NBA‘s greatest teams that won multiple championships have had a talented and Basketball Hall of Fame worthy point guard. The 11-time NBA champion Boston Celtics had Bob Cousy, the Los Angeles Lakers had Magic Johnson, the Detroit Pistons had Isiah Thomas, the Celtics in the 1980s had Dennis Johnson. Phil Jackson ‘s championship teams always had a point guard that could defend and make game changing three pointers and was valuable to both teams without outstanding statistics. Last month Chalmers’ teammate LeBron James joked about him needing to grow up, but James is right.

Chalmers is an immature Derek Fisher. And in order for the Heat to evolve he will need to become more like Tony Parker, Rajon Rondo, and even Chauncey Billups. Before these players won a championship they were similar to Chalmers. They were starters in this league but their games evolved from their championship experience and turned them into all-stars. Chalmers may never make an all-star game since he is in a conference that contains three of the top five point guards in the league, but he can become an impact player.

He can start this season. Chalmers’ health can determine how good the Heat’s regular season win and loss record can be. If he is healthy, mature, and he improves as a floor leader the Heat may have the ability to reach 70 wins. If he has what I call the ‘Rondo effect’ from winning a championship, then this Heat team might win the 2013 NBA championship easier than expected.
