It happened again. Delonte West has been suspended indefinitely by the Dallas Mavericks. Donnie Nelson, President of Basketball Operations, stated that his suspension is effective immediately.
West was suspended indefinitely over a week ago due to an outburst he had after an exhibition game with the Houston Rockets. That suspension only lasted a practice and he did not miss any pre-season games. In fact, he has played in all seven exhibition games with averages of 5 points, 2 assists and 1.3 rebounds a game.
West does have a bipolar disorder and I am assuming that his disorder caused his outburst that cost him his last suspension by Dallas. This suspension was given for conduct detrimental to the team once again, according to Donnie Nelson.
We shall know soon if West is indeed suspended for more than a few hours and if he is then his suspension could go on through the weekend and to the start of the NBA season next week. However, with the Mavs short handed I expect West to be back before the first game of the season next week in Los Angeles.
It would be disappointing if the Mavs and West do not work out because the way coach Rick Carlisle praises him it would be a great lost for this roster. West and Carlisle have a good relationship and you can tell by West calling Carlisle “Uncle Ricky”. Carlisle was the one who went to Mark Cuban and Nelson to tell them that he wants West back on this team.
There is diffidently a connection between these two and hopefully for the Mavs sake that they can somehow get the help or whatever West needs to get him back on the court to produce like he can. If not then as I mentioned in the last suspension I would not be surprise if the Mavs decided to trade or release him from the team. After all, The Mavs need to do what is best for the team and not have these type of distractions in the locker room.
